UMB Vaccination Requirements

UMB's COVID-19 vaccination requirements from 2021-2022 are still in place for all continuing on-campus students.

Incoming students should refer to this letter for requirements.

An on-campus student includes any student whose courses or student-related activities are performed in whole or in part on the UMB campus, Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Donaldson Brown Riverfront Event Center, Columbus Center, UM BioPark, and other Maryland satellite offices. This also includes UMB students who attend the Universities at Shady Grove. Students engaged in clinical or field site activities should note that external sites may have stricter vaccine rules than UMB.

Effective Aug. 1, 2022, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) will no longer require employees (faculty, staff, and contractors) to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Employees whose job duties require them to work in clinical settings or at clinical or field sites continue to be subject to the vaccine requirements of those sites. Schools are responsible for communicating and enforcing any COVID-19 vaccine requirements that relate to a UMB employee’s specific job duties. In these cases, proof of vaccination and requests for accommodations will continue to be administered through the COVID-19 Management Portal.

UMB is committed to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community. UMB will provide medical and religious exemptions to this vaccination mandate, as provided for under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The UMB COVID-19 Management Portal allows faculty, staff, and students to:

• Approve or deny Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) COVID-19 health information sharing
• Upload vaccination dose information (if not using CRISP)
• Upload booster dose information (if not using CRISP)
• Request a vaccination exemption

Vaccine/Booster Shots

COVID-19 Vaccination Sites

Students can receive their COVID-19 vaccine and booster by visiting the University of Maryland (UM) Immediate Care/Student Health Center via this appointment link. Insurance and other information can be found here.

The easiest way to share your vaccination status with UMB, is to authorize the state of Maryland’s health information system to provide your vaccination records directly to UMB.

The Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) is the state of Maryland’s designated electronic health record system. UMB’s agreement with CRISP allows CRISP to share your vaccination history with UMB, with your consent.

The CRISP authorization form can be accessed in the UMB COVID-19 Management Portal. This will populate the form with your name and email address. Your authorization via this form will permit CRISP to share your COVID-19 vaccination history with school leaders, department managers, and the occupational/student health clinical team. Only the clinical team will receive your COVID-19 test results if you authorize COVID test sharing.

CRISP will pull information from connected providers mainly in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

The portal will detect your dosage and testing information overnight from the date you received your vaccination dose.

One exception is the University of Maryland School of Nursing, whose students must upload COVID-19 vaccination records to CastleBranch because the school needs all student immunizations in one place for clinical placement purposes.

An alternative way to report your COVID-19 vaccination, which may be needed if you were vaccinated outside the data collection range of CRISP (e.g. across the country), is to report the information directly in the UMB COVID-19 Management Portal, and upload proof of vaccine You can document primary vaccine series as well as multiple booster doses over time at this site.
