The University has enhanced its wireless network with the implementation of eduroam.
This new wireless system enables the University to become part of the eduroam initiative. Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, worldwide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
Eduroam allows students, faculty, and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by utilizing their local login credentials (UMID) on their laptop or smartphone.
Having started in Europe, eduroam has gained momentum throughout the research and education community and is available in 54 countries.
Eduroam also gives faculty, staff, and students the ability to connect to any wireless system in the University regardless of the building you are in. Read more about Eduroam
How to connect to Eduroam
- Set up your device by following the appropriate guide in the list on the right side of this page.
- Log in with the appropriate credentials.
If your email address looks like this — email@example.com, or firstname.lastname@example.org — your eduroam credentials are your email address and associated password.
NOTE: You can use these login credentials to connect to any of the following wireless networks:
Otherwise, your login credentials are your UMID plus “@eduroam.umaryland.edu” and your UMID password
NOTE: You can only use these login credentials to connect to the Eduroam wireless network.
Once you have successfully connected to the eduroam network, your user credentials will be cached on your device and the username string will not have to be entered again until you are required to change your password in the UMB Account Management system.
This same UMID@eduroam.umaryland.edu will allow you to connect to wireless networks at participating eduroam locations.
