AI at UMB

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the way we teach, learn, research, and work, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is taking proactive steps to ensure its use is thoughtful, ethical, and aligned with our institutional values. 

The AI Ideation Steering Committee has developed and published UMB’s first-ever AI Governance Policy and AI Guidelines. These resources are designed to support our entire community — faculty, instructors, students, researchers, and administrators — as we navigate the opportunities and challenges of AI.  

• The AI Governance Policy establishes principles, guidelines, and a framework to guide UMB in its engagement, utilization, and governance of artificial intelligence. 

• The AI Guidelines assist faculty, instructors, students, researchers, and administrators to use AI tools effectively and responsibly. 

We encourage all members of the UMB community to review these important documents and consider how they apply to their work and learning.
