Front Desk Attendant - Student Affairs/Campus Life Services Suite

Duties:

  • Greet students and guests in the Student Affairs/CLS suite. Answer questions and/or direct individuals to the appropriate staff member or resource.
  • Answer and transfer incoming calls, as appropriate.
  • Assist with the creation and dissemination of monthly flyers and other marketing materials (e.g., Stall Talk).
  • Update monthly chalkboard in the SMC Campus Center lobby
  • Assist staff with special projects and other initiatives
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse individuals.
  • Punctual and meet deadlines.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work at least 3 hours/week (hours do not have to be consecutive)

Front Desk Attendant – Business Services/One Card Services

Duties:

  • Greet faculty, staff, students, affiliates, and contractors
  • Issue UM One Card/identification cards using ID Works Software
  • Print replacement cards
  • Issue/answer information about program and vending
  • Answer phone lines
  • Work with filing, organizing (program info, online photo submissions, etc.), cashier, typing, data entry

Student Test Proctor - Educational Support and Disability Services (ESDS, Federal Work Study only)

Shift:  Must be available between hours of 9:30am – 5pm at least two days a week (Monday – Friday); days and time commitments are negotiable

Hours:  5-10 hours per week; August 2019 start

Type:  Federal Work Study position/ $15 per hour

Positions available:  3

Primary Duties

This position will serve as the proctor for exams that will be held in the UMB Testing Center. 

Under the supervision and direction of the ESDS Office:

  1. Provide assistance in the coordination of testing services to students with disabilities.
  2. Book or modify reservations for testing appointments
  3. Collect and prepare testing materials for upcoming exams
  4. Checks identification before testing and seats examinees for testing
  5. Monitors students during test sessions to ensure a secure testing environment
  6. Assists in the distribution and collection of test material
  7. Reports suspected irregularities to ESDS
  8. Sets up assistive technologies when needed
  9. Controls admission to and from the testing room
  10. Fills out appropriate paperwork for various exams
  11. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • UMB Student
  • High School Diploma

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study & enrolled in minimum 6 credits
  • Must have daytime availability to work (days and times are negotiable)
  • Possesses strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be reliable, punctual, dependable and professional
  • Ability to work with a large number of people and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments (when needed).
  • Ability to prepare and disseminate administrative paperwork

General Assistant – Event Services (Federal Work Study only)

Duties:

  • Assist Event Services staff in event facilitation, logistics, and supervision
  • Assist with daily event management, to include unlocking meeting rooms, checking out equipment, and acting as event greeter
  • Assist with daily event setups, technical requirements, furniture, and equipment, including moving and setting up tables, chairs, couches, and other related furniture for event and lounge spaces
  • Assist with resetting spaces after events/meetings; maintain neat and clean appearance of information center, lounges, meeting rooms, hallways
  • Assist with the setting up of Audio Visual Equipment in event space
  • Maintain orderly appearance in all storage areas
  • Maintain awareness of daily event schedule and all related information
  • Attend required departmental meetings, staff development programs and in service trainings
  • Complete daily reports and other documents as required

Graduate Peer Writing Consultant – Writing Center

Diversity Fellow – Interprofessional Student Learning & Service Initiatives (Federal Work Study only)

Diversity Fellows in the Office of Interprofessional Student Learning & Service Initiatives (ISLSI) will assist with the development, coordination, marketing, and execution of campus-wide diversity & inclusion educational programs and events. Fellows will:

  • Assist with researching and identifying content experts in the areas of – diversity and inclusion best practices in health and human services
  • Assist with development of lunch and learn programs
  • Assist with creation of marketing materials and material dissemination to the various UMB schools, programs, and extended UMB Community
  • Assist with day of program management and facilitation

Legal Assistant - Office of International Services (Federal Work Study only)

The Legal Assistant will:

  • answer and screen phone calls
  • assist OIS visitors and manage walk-ins during walk-in advising
  • help with data entry and preparing immigration/visa petitions (of UMB sponsored faculty and staff) for filing with USCIS
  • communicate with department contacts and OIS clientele about pending cases
  • help with scanning paper files, uploading them to the OIS database, and auditing scanned files,
  • assist with special projects as assigned
  • maintain confidentiality of clients' information, and 
  • present a positive image of the OIS

Electronic Media Specialist - Office of Student Development and Leadership

The Office of Student Development and Leadership is seeking a student with knowledge of website content management and social media. Specifically, the electronic media specialist will be expected to:

  • Assist in maintaining and improving the Office of Student Development and Leadership’s website in accordance with University branding guidelines using UMB’s content management system
  • Assist with content development and maintenance for Universitywide student groups’ websites
  • Assist with content development for Campus Life Services social media 

Preference will be given to applicants who are proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, and who are able to assist in the production of graphic designs for digital displays, posters, flyers, and other publications.

Job requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore
  • Must qualify for Federal Work Study
