Title IX Update Related to Pregnant and Parenting Students

    July 23, 2024

    Dear UMB Faculty and Staff,

I am writing to inform you of a significant update to Title IX related to pregnant and parenting students.

Effective Aug. 1, 2024, if a student discloses that they are pregnant, the regulations require that you promptly provide the student with the Title IX Coordinator’s contact information and inform the student that the Title IX Coordinator can coordinate specific actions to prevent sex discrimination and ensure the student’s equal access to UMB’s education program or activity. (Download an e-card with the required information.)

This and other changes that will be required by the 2024 Final Rule are crucial in ensuring that our institution remains compliant with federal regulations and continues to provide a safe and equitable environment for all students and staff.

If you have any questions or would like to request additional information or training about the requirements regarding pregnant and parenting students, please contact UMB’s Title IX program or submit a request through the Office of Accountability and Compliance’s Education Request Form.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to our students.

    Sincerely.

    Susan Buskirk, DM, MS

Chief Accountability Officer and Vice President
