- Campus Cleanup
- Drop by our basecamp at the beginning of your shift to check in and get supplies. Swing back by the basecamp at the end of your shift to drop off your full trash bags! If you are a staff member who is interested in using 1-4 hours of paid volunteer leave for this event, you can view and print the required paperwork found on the Community Engagement website.

- Composting Workshop
- This workshop will teach you about how to compost at events on-campus, as well as different methods for composting at home. You will learn about resources for hosting zero-waste campus events and decorate a countertop compost bin to use in your home or office!

- Walking Wednesday: Campus Sustainability Month Edition
- Join the Office of Sustainability for a special edition of our Walking Wednesday series. Meet outside the SMC Campus Center at 12 p.m. From there, we'll walk to and around Baltimore's Inner Harbor. This walk will feature Comfort K-9 Poe and Officer Anthony Summers.

- Climate, Health, and Policy in Maryland: The State Steps Up
- Come spend a day of active learning with climate change and health equity thought leaders, University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Maryland, College Park faculty and students, and local climate nonprofit and community groups.

- October Specialty Recycling Collections
- Month of October, Campus Center and Lexington lobbies
- Items Accepted: Books, batteries, ink/toner cartridges, electronics, clothing and textiles, plastic bags and film
- Recycle books, alkaline batteries, ink/toner cartridges, electronics, clothing and textiles, and plastic bags and film in designated bins in the lobbies of the SMC Campus Center and the 620 W. Lexington St. building. Please do not deposit non-alkaline batteries including lithium ion, nickel cadmium, rechargeable, etc.
- Alkaline Batteries (both ends taped): AAA, AA, C, D, 9-Volt
- Electronics: computers, laptops, servers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, switches, routers, wire, cellphones, tablets, communications equipment
- Books: hardcover and softcover
- Toner/Ink Cartridges: laser and inkjet printer cartridges
- Textiles and Clothing: clean, dry, and odorless clothing, footwear (in pairs), linens + bedding, accessories (hats, bags, belts, gloves, ties, scarves, bathrobes, jewelry), and other (luggage, sports jerseys, stuffed animals)
- Plastic Bags and Film: shopping bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, bread bags, cereal bags, bubble wrap, plastic overwrap, air pillows"
Alignment with Strategic Plan:
Education and Engagement: Create and maintain a constant communication flow with the entire campus community regarding sustainability. Communicate to the campus on a regular basis with initiatives and tips to keep sustainability a part of the UMB culture.
