Commencement 2020

May 14, 2020

Dear UMB Community,

Congratulations to the class of 2020! I look upon commencement as a day full of hope, knowing that graduates are ready to do the work we have prepared them to do, improving the human condition and serving the public good. Traditionally, we would be together on this beautiful day in Baltimore, but instead we will experience Commencement differently.

I invite you to visit our Commencement page where we've brought together videos to celebrate this day, including my message for this year. Thank you to the Hippocratic Notes for singing our National Anthem and to Shi (Porter) Yang our 2020 Student SpeakerGovernor Larry Hogan and Chancellor Jay Perman also offer their congratulations. Please share your own celebrations on social media using #2020UMB so others can see them as well.

Since our founding, graduates from the University of Maryland, Baltimore have worked to serve the public good and improve the human condition - and I know that you understand the importance of that mission especially now amidst this global pandemic.

I join the entire the entire University of Maryland, Baltimore family - faculty, staff and alumni, the community, and the state of Maryland - in celebrating the accomplishments of the class of 2020! We look forward to seeing what you do next.

Sincerely,

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS
Interim President
