Call for Nominations: MLK Diversity Recognition Awards

November 06, 2020

To the UMB Community:

Each year, we reinforce the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by honoring those who demonstrate an extraordinary dedication to these ideals.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Recognition Awards go to individuals or groups at UMB whose personal or professional work sustains Dr. King’s legacy of building a free and just society. The award is presented in three categories: outstanding faculty member or faculty unit; outstanding staff member or staff unit; and outstanding student or student group. All nominations are due by noon on Friday, Nov. 20. Please share this note with colleagues who don’t have email access.

The awards will be presented during UMB’s Martin Luther King Jr./Black History Month celebration Feb. 4, 2021. Anthony K. Wutoh, PhD, RPh, provost and chief academic officer at Howard University in Washington, D.C., will be the keynote speaker for this virtual event.

Questions may be directed to Vanessa Fahie, PhD, RN, chair of the Diversity Advisory Council’s MLK Jr. Award Committee, via email or by calling 410-706-7501.

It’s an enormous privilege to recognize the students, faculty, and staff who live UMB’s core value of diversity and whose scholarship and service honor the life and work of Dr. King. Please consider nominating a student or colleague today.

Sincerely,

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS

President
