Cost-of-Living Increase for State Employees

Dear Colleagues:

At the end of the legislative session in April, I wrote to you with news that Gov. Hogan and the General Assembly approved a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment for state employees, which takes effect on Jan. 1.

I also noted that the budget passed by the legislature contained provisions for an additional 0.5 percent increase starting next April, along with a one-time $500 bonus -- but only if Maryland exceeded its FY 2018 tax revenue projections by at least $75 million. We've now received official word that those projections have, indeed, been exceeded by the stipulated amount, thanks to the state's robust economy and prudent fiscal management.

I'm delighted that your dedicated work on behalf of UMB and Maryland is being rewarded in this way. Congratulations!

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
