Appointment of Dr. Stephen Davis as VP of Clinical Translational Science

To the UMB Community:

I'm delighted to announce that Stephen N. Davis, MBBS, FRCP, FACE, MACP, has been appointed UMB's vice president of clinical translational science. Dr. Davis is the Dr. Theodore E. Woodward Chair of the Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine and will take on this new role in addition to his current responsibilities.

As vice president, Dr. Davis will spearhead UMB's collaboration with Johns Hopkins University in competing for the prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical and Translational Science Award. It has long been my goal to participate in this critically important grant, which provides much-needed infrastructure support to build an outstanding clinical research program and generate breakthroughs in translational process. The appointment of Dr. Davis is a significant step toward enlarging UMB's clinical and translational research capabilities.

Dr. Davis has been a tireless champion for clinical investigation at our University. Since 2010, he has served as director of the General Clinical Research Center, which provides vital resources to UMB's entire clinical research community. As director, he has grown the center's research base, increasing the number and scope of projects sponsored by federal agencies and corporations alike. Dr. Davis also is a founding member of the UMB Clinical Translational Sciences Institute and serves as its director. This center will act as UMB's focal point for the NIH grant application with Johns Hopkins.

I'm thrilled that Dr. Davis has agreed to serve in this new role and, with the University's senior leadership, I offer him my full support. I know you join me in congratulating Dr. Davis on this appointment.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
