Diversity is one of the core values of the University. The University is committed to a culture that is enriched by diversity and inclusion, in the broadest sense, in its thoughts, actions, and leadership.

The director of EEO/AA, Sheila Blackshear, serves on the president’s Diversity Advisory Council, which makes recommendations to the president that promote the University’s commitment to diversity and a culture of inclusion.

The Education and Equal Access Team also coordinates internal and external diversity initiatives to support the mission, goals, and core values of the University:

  • YouthWorks Summer Job Program

The program, sponsored in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, provides high school students and young adults meaningful summer employment experiences throughout Baltimore.

  • Project SEARCH

Through a continuing partnership among UMB, the Arc Baltimore, the Baltimore City Public School System, and the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Project SEARCH is a model in workforce and career development for adults and students with disabilities.
