Big Ideas Change the World

CATALYST is the University of Maryland, Baltimore's institutional magazine, telling the stories of the people, ideas, discoveries, and achievements that define UMB.

Published by the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, CATALYST showcases the breadth and impact of the University's work across its seven schools and many communities. Each issue explores the people and initiatives advancing health, education, research, social justice, and community service—and the ways UMB is helping shape what comes next.

A Publication With Purpose

Launched in fall 2019, CATALYST was created to present UMB's story in an engaging and inspirational way while strengthening connections across the University and beyond.

The magazine provides a platform to share UMB's interdisciplinary expertise, achievements, advances, and aspirations, as well as groundbreaking local and global initiatives.

Available digitally through a dedicated magazine web portal, CATALYST reaches more than 120,000 influential leaders and thinkers in their fields and communities, as well as UMB alumni, faculty, staff, and students.
