Submission Guidelines
To be considered for publication in The Elm Weekly:
- Submit all entries by 4 p.m. on the Wednesday before the publication date.
- Each announcement, event or news item may be submitted no more than three times.
- Event descriptions are limited to 250 characters.
- Images must be no larger than 300 × 300 pixels.
Submission Review
The Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA) reserves the right to exclude submissions when:
- The content does not meet The Elm Weekly qualifications or is not relevant to the time period in which the email is being sent.
- There are too many submissions from one group.
- The submitted content is not appropriate for any reason.
Research Study Guidelines
All research studies, related content and images submitted to OCPA for publication must be approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
By submitting content to The Elm Weekly or OCPA, you confirm that your study, content and image(s) have received IRB approval.
OCPA is not responsible for obtaining IRB approval or confirming that approval has been obtained. OCPA will not edit IRB-approved content or images or provide images without IRB approval.
Press releases and media advisories may contain narrative adapted from your submission. These materials will be sent back to you for review and approval by you and/or the IRB before OCPA distributes the release.
Need an Image?
If you need an image for your Elm or Elm Weekly submission, you may find a suitable photo at iStockphoto.com and have the image approved by the IRB.
After the image has been approved, send the image link to elmsupport@umaryland.edu. OCPA will download the image and cover the cost for its use in The Elm Weekly.
