Global Content in First-Year Dental Course

First-year dental students enroll in a course called PROF 518 (Profession and Professionalism) which provides an overview of skills necessary to “provide care to patients with diverse backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors and to work as an effective member of a healthcare team.
The GLOBALtimore Teaching Fellowship will provide the foundation needed to incorporate global learning in the course. Topics such as dental ethics, leadership in healthcare, cultural competency, professionalism, and communication will be examined through a global lens.
The Fellowship lead to the “Profession and Professionalism” course at the School of Dentistry, which enrolled 129 students.
