Security Officer Latoya Lucas has worked for the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) for six years. She's been driving the Safe Ride van for three of those years. 

"I want to always ensure the safety of our students and employees," says Lucas. "My favorite part of being a Safe Ride driver is seeing my regular riders - plus listening to music!"

Lucas hopes UMB and UMMC community members know that Safe Rides are convenient and safe. "Don't be nervous," she says. "It'll be a smooth ride. I'll get you to your destination safely and in a timely fashion." You can help your Safe Ride driver by being ready to go when they arrive. 

One fun fact about Lucas is that she won the unsung hero award for playing basketball in high school! Lucas was also featured as a UMBPD Spotlight Officer in January 2020.
