  • August Green Tip

For this August Green Tip, we’re focusing on civic involvement. • September Green Tip

We encourage community members to volunteer with local cleanup organizations. Blue Water Baltimore focuses on neighborhood cleanups and tree plantings, while Trash Free Maryland works to reduce trash pollution throughout the state. The 6th Branch helps revitalize communities through cleanup and green space development. The Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore is dedicated to restoring the Harbor.

  • October Green Tip

Sustainable Halloween tips include displaying real apples, squash, and nuts in a bowl/basket for décor that is both sustainable and edible. You can swap decorations with friends or repurpose old items before purchasing new ones. Consider buying costumes secondhand from thrift shops and other sources to reduce waste. Additionally, consider repurposing old scarves or tablecloths into fall banners.

  • November Green Tip

Pass the Plate encourages reducing food waste by supporting local donation efforts. Our Daily Bread accepts meal donations and volunteers who help serve food. The Maryland Food Bank takes non-perishable food donations as well as monetary gifts. Beans & Bread offers both meals and housing assistance, while Paul’s Place serves as a community resource center providing meal and pantry programs.

  • December Green Tip

Before leaving for the winter holiday, remember these four energy-saving tips. Power down and unplug all devices. If you have control of the thermostat, turn it down to 60 degrees. Keep blinds open in south-facing windows to let in heat, and close blinds elsewhere. Finally, turn off lights in your individual space as well as in common areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and conference rooms.

Other Communication Materials

  • Bird Strikes

Lights Out UMB advocates for everyone to help protect migrating birds by turning off lights when leaving a building. When possible, you should turn off your lights each day as you leave the office, or use blinds, shades, drapes, or other window coverings to block light and prevent birds from seeing it. To learn more, visit LightsOutBaltimore.org.

  • Arbor Day Tree Bingo

Tree Bingo encourages participants to explore and identify a variety of trees and tree-related sightings. Items on the bingo card include a bird in a tree, a flowering tree, the Davidge Elm, a pine, an oak, a maple, and a holly. Participants can scan the QR code or visit the provided link to submit their findings.
