Community Composting Dropoff

Through a USDA grant with Baltimore City's Department of Public Works, UMB is starting a community composting dropoff pilot in September 2023.

When and Where to Drop Off

  • Wednesdays, 2:30 - 5:30pm at the Community Engagement Center (16 S. Poppleton St) 
  • Thursdays, 11am - 2pm at the SMC Campus Center (621 W. Lombard St) 
  • Please note that collections will not take place on the following dates due to scheduled holidays and building closures:
    • Wednesday, December 27, 2023
    • Thursday, December 28, 2023
    • Wednesday, January 3, 2024
    • Wednesday, January 10, 2024
    • Please email sustainability@umaryland.edu to learn about other arrangements that can be made for dropping off your compost during these times.

Accepted Materials Include:

  • fruit and vegetable scraps (cores, rinds, pits)
  • tea leaves and coffee grinds
  • egg shells
  • grass clippings, weeds, flowers/herbs

Divert food scraps from the incinerator and expand community composting opportunities within Baltimore City.
