    Events

    Specialty Recycling Collection Event at the Campus Center

    Friday, April 1 - Saturday, April 30

    Recycle books, alkaline batteries, ink/toner cartridges, electronics, and plastic bags and film in designated bins in the lobby of the SMC Campus Center.

    Alkaline Batteries: AAA, AA, C, D, 9-Volt

    Electronics: computers, laptops, servers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, switches, routers, wire, cellphones, tablets, communication equipment

    Books: hardcover and softcover

    Toner/Ink Cartridges: laser and inkjet printer cartridges

    Plastic Bags and Film: shopping bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, bread bags, cereal bags, bubble wrap, plastic overwrap, air pillows

    30-Day Nature Challenge

    Friday, April 1 - Saturday, April 30

    The 30-Day Nature Challenge will promote wellness by encouraging participants to spend time in nature each day. To receive credit, you must log in to ChallengeRunner.com each day and log how much time you spent in nature that day. The three participants with the most minutes logged will each receive a prize. Join the challenge here.

    The Benefits of Eating Local

    Wednesday, April 20, from noon - 12:30 p.m.

    Hear from UMB’s Office of Sustainability about some of the benefits of eating food grown locally, as well as opportunities in and around UMB’s campus to support local farmers and food establishment owners.

    Bike Tune-Ups at the School of Nursing with Joe’s Bike Shop

    Thursday, April 21, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

    This event will take place in the School of Nursing Courtyard. Approximately 30 bikes will be able to receive tune-ups.

    Virtual Earth Day Run 5K

    Friday, April 22

    Take in the fresh air, lace up those running shoes, and join us for our monthly themed 5ks. This month’s theme is Earth Day! Dress the part or just show up and burn some calories —either way it is sure to be a great way to stay fit and have fun! Run on your treadmill, in your neighborhood, or on your favorite trail! There is no time limit, and it can be done anytime of the day.

    Take a “Paws” (pause) and Keep Growing Earth Day Celebration

    Friday, April 22, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

    Hosted by: URecFit and Wellness and UMB’s Office of Sustainability

    Please stop by Room 115 in the Campus Center and take a “Paws” (pause) with Pippin, Marcel, and Little Miss Maddy. Receive a free succulent plant giveaway, information about local parks, and make a pledge about what well-being and sustainability means to you!

    Education and Engagement: Create and maintain a constant communication flow with the entire campus community regarding sustainability. Communicate to the campus on a regular basis with initiatives and tips to keep sustainability a part of the UMB culture.
