Fulvio Cativo is the associate dean of external affairs at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, where he leads advancement, communications, and policy. His experience spans higher education and K–12 across public and private institutions. He brings together work in communications, development, and operations to support senior leaders and work with faculty, students, and alumni while aligning institutional priorities with external partnerships, philanthropy, and strategy.
Trained as a journalist, Cativo began his career as a newspaper reporter, with writing for news outlets in Connecticut; Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Virginia; Texas; Ohio; and Kentucky. He is a Washington-area lifer who grew up in Silver Spring, Md., and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Maryland, College Park.
A first-generation college graduate, Cativo is passionate about expanding access to higher education by strengthening connections across institutions, philanthropy, public policy, and the communities they serve.
