Upcoming COLA and Merit Increases

January 14, 2022

Dear Colleagues:

I am very pleased to share that the governor’s office has approved cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and merit pay increases as well as a one-time $1,500 bonus for eligible faculty and staff. We expect that all regular status faculty and staff will benefit.

Eligible employees will see a 1 percent COLA, 2.5 percent merit, and one-time $1,500 bonus added to their Feb. 18, 2022, paycheck, including a retroactive pay adjustment to Jan. 2, 2022. The bonus will be prorated based on each employee’s full time equivalent (FTE) status. Merit increases will be given to employees with a performance rating of Meets Standards or above.

These increases are in addition to the $15-per-hour minimum wage for staff that I announced in December. Employees who are impacted by the minimum wage increase will see that change in their Feb.4, 2022, paycheck, including a retroactive pay adjustment to Jan. 2, 2022.

In addition, eligible employees will see an additional 3 percent COLA and a merit increase averaging 2.5 percent (for employees with a performance rating of Meets Standards or above) in July 2022.

I am grateful that Maryland's leaders are recognizing and rewarding your hard work with these much-deserved increases. Please look for a communication next week from Human Resource Services about eligibility. I thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to UMB and those we serve.

Sincerely,

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS
President
