UMB Minimum Wage

December 15, 2021

Dear UMB Community,

I’m pleased to share that the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents has approved a $15 minimum wage. The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) will implement a $15 per hour minimum wage for staff and student employees currently making less than $15 an hour. The change will go into effect at the beginning of January and will appear in the first paycheck in February.

I believe that UMB has the best staff, faculty and students. This pay adjustment is one necessary step in making sure that we remain an employer of choice. More importantly, it’s the right thing to do.

You can read USM Chancellor Perman’s statement about the $15 minimum wage here. Please contact Human Resource Services if you have questions about this new wage rate.

Sincerely,

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS

President
