Living Our Core Values

Dear Students:

As we begin the 2015‒16 academic year, I think it’s fitting we celebrate the core values that guide our scholarship and our service every day.

At Living Our Core Values you’ll find a booklet that describes the values shaping the University’s academic programs and operating philosophy and suggests ways we might bring the values to life in our daily work and in our interaction with others. I hope you’ll hang this core values poster in your living space or workspace as a reminder of our collective commitment to these seven essential ideals: accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence, knowledge, and leadership.

The University’s Core Values Speaker Series continues this fall with a talk by Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet. On Oct. 15, Ms. Hessler-Radelet will speak to the core value of collaboration, which we consider fundamental to educational success and institutional productivity. Register here to be part of this important event.

I thank you for your dedication to your discipline, to the University, and to the values we hold so dear. I wish you a successful and fulfilling school year—one in which UMB’s core values imbue your studies and practice, strengthen your relationships, and inspire you to even greater achievement.

Sincerely,
Jay A. Perman, MD
President
