Policy Statement
It is the policy of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) for each school or academic unit to provide effective and efficient academic advising for all students. The primary concerns of academic advising are individual student growth and development, as well as the effective use of institutional resources to support academic success.
Each school or academic unit shall develop, maintain, and publicize an academic advising system that provides accurate, timely, and accessible guidance to all students in all aspects of their educational program.
The President delegates overseeing effectiveness of academic advising to the dean or academic leader in charge of each academic unit. Further, the President or designee shall also determine appropriate means of recognizing and rewarding excellence in academic advising and mentoring.
