Mark Small, MS RPA-C
Mark Small is a surgical Physician Associate with twenty years of experience in critical care, general surgery, and inpatient medicine. He earned his Master of Science in Physician Associate Studies and Healthcare Sciences from Daemen University and has since built a diverse clinical career across multiple institutions, including the Manhattan Campus VA Hospital, Long Island College Hospital, and NYU Langone Medical Center. He currently serves as the Chief APP of Advanced Practice Surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, where he oversees clinical operations and supports the professional development of advanced practice providers. Outside of work, Mark enjoys running, reading, mentoring students interested in healthcare careers, and patiently waiting for the Yankees’ next World Series championship.
Why the PALLA Fellowship
Mark’s interest in the PALLA Fellowship stems from his commitment to teaching diverse learners in a systematic, evidencebased, and reproducible way. He aims to strengthen his effectiveness as an educator while developing an educational structure that can be shared and adopted by colleagues across his institution. Through this fellowship, he hopes to enhance the consistency and quality of learner experiences and contribute to a culture of excellence in advanced practice education.
