The Research Security (RS) team partners with International Operations (IO) and Business Applications (Concur) to access information on international travel to ensure faculty, staff and students receive adequate information regarding research security prior to travel. The process for foreign travel review is in place to protect researchers and their research and scholarly work while traveling on UMB-business. This program complies with the National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 guidelines.
Review Process
- The RS team is notified of foreign travel and collects pertinent information from International Travel Attestation Forms and Concur reports.
- A questionnaire is sent to collect further details about the travel. The questions serve as a source of information to assist in determining the overall risk profile of the foreign travel.
- Information requested includes:
- Items taken (laptop, mobile devices, laboratory equipment, etc.)
- Whether published or unpublished data will be taken
- Active and potential collaborators and their affiliations
- Conference title and website
- Costs covered by funder/sponsor
- Upon completion of the risk assessment and final determination of the risks, the RS team will provide guidance pursuant to risk level.
All foreign travel to Foreign Countries of Concern (FCOC; Russia, Iran, Korea, China) are escalated and reviewed by the Research Security Manager.
