Requests Relating to Federal Awards
Dear Colleagues,
We are aware that some researchers at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), as well as at other peer institutions, have received calls and emails from representatives of federal agencies requesting changes to the terms and conditions of federal awards or, in some instances, to mutually terminate an award. Often, these requests are confusing, and it can be unclear if or how to comply.
If you are contacted by anyone from outside the University requesting changes related to a federal award, immediately share the request via email with Jill Frankenfield, MSL, MS, associate vice president, Sponsored Programs Administration, and Laura Scarantino, MSF, CPA, assistant vice president, Office of Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance, and copy your department chair and dean. Do not respond to requests independently.
We are monitoring these instances and working with the UMB Office of University Counsel to determine what steps, if any, need to be taken.
Thank you for helping us stay on top of this important issue and for all you do every day to support research at UMB.
Sincerely,
Gregory F. Ball, PhD
Vice President for Research
