Hello, we have an 18 day old baby girl and I tested positive for covid 19 five days ago. I instantly began to isolate. We asked our pediatrician if we should take our daughter in and he said to wait and watch. My wife sees some differences, slight sound when she breathes (hard to tell if it's her nose or lungs), crying about pain that isn't the same as crying for gas pain, watery eyes, slight lethargy. She eats well and tends to vomit occasionally but otherwise is sleeping fairly normally. Without a fever they're telling us here to stay at home since hospitals are full. We're American and living in France and I wanted to ask a fellow English speaker what you think. Should we go in and just wait even if it's 5 hours or is it just more risk with our high levels of RSV at the moment? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Kind regards,
I agree that you should strictly isolate yourself from your baby girl and wife. The symptoms that you have described do not sound alarming and I also would not advise that you bring the baby into the hospital for evaluation. I would continue to wear a mask and also make efforts to improve the indoor air quality through ventilation (bringing fresh air inside) and filtration (HEPA filtration of indoor air) to further reduce the risks with Covid, flu, RSV, and other common winter-time respiratory viruses.
