My daughter is 4.5 years old and she goes to preschool. She is a very active child and full of energy. At school she naps for 2 hours and in the morning she usually wakes up around 7 am. I pick her up around 5 pm and we start bedtime routine around 8:30 pm. She gives us hard time going to bed, she always wants to play, we read lots of books but she doesn't go down before 9:30 pm. It is really tiring and me and my husband don't have any
It sounds like you have a wonderful and highly active daughter. Many parents face the same situation that you described - you are not alone! We often recommend slight modifications in routine and environment to enable a child to go to sleep a bit earlier.
After school or dinner, consider taking her for a walk or some other form of exercise. When approaching bedtime, it is better to start earlier, say 8:00 PM, and develop a routine in which you and she can participate. Establish a cadence, such as we read one book every night after changing into pajamas and brushing our teeth and then going to bed. While she may not respond to this the first night or two, the new routine can be understood and become the norm.
Also, many children have so many toys and gadgets in their rooms nowadays that the environment itself is overstimulating and not conducive to sleep. Take a look and see if that is the case.
We always recommend that you consult with your pediatrician as well.
