I got vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine 3 times, I got the third one in September 2021. I got pregnant in November and got infected with SARS-CoV-2 in January 2022, when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I am wondering if I should get the fourth vaccine now which is available for me where I live (Hungary, Europe). I am considering getting another vaccine to protect my baby due in August. I am also considering the fact that during summetime it might be less likely to get infected (since I spend most of my time outside) and I might wait until fall/winter (when I meet people mostly indoors) to get a fourth vaccine and then protect my baby by passing the antibodies through breastfeeding. What would you recommend? Thank you!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Vaccination against Covid is the best way to protect yourself and your baby. Yes, I would encourage you to proceed with another dose of vaccine before you deliver. Vaccination at this time will result in some of your (mom’s) antibodies to be passed over to the fetus (your baby) during pregnancy and while still in the uterus.  The baby can continue to receive some of your antibodies through breastfeeding, even after delivery. I would not wait until after delivery because this could pose a “window of time” during which the baby is not protected and also—let’s be honest—it would be good to have one less thing to remember to do immediately after childbirth. So, don’t wait, get your next booster dose of vaccine now.
