The current data suggests that there is short-term protection from re-infection with the natural infection. Many estimates state an average of about 90 days of protection may be expected. However, the 90 days is an average and there is not a good way to determine which people (which of the children) will be on the short end vs. the longer end of this estimate. The best way to ensure protection is through vaccination, when it becomes available to your children (and according to their age). Also, children are commonly very mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic with infection and thus can still transmit the virus to other people with which they may be in contact.
