Face to Face: The Impact of Overturning Roe v. Wade

On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered the most significant ruling in recent memory in a Mississippi abortion law case (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization).

To be part of this important national conversation, University of Maryland, Baltimore President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, hosted a special edition of Virtual Face to Face with President Bruce Jarrell to discuss the potential impact of the case.

On June 29, President Jarrell was joined by a panel of UMB thought leaders to answer questions and facilitate a discussion about the major impact the ruling will have on women, the disproportionate effect it will have on the BIPOC community, and the socioeconomic issues that will inevitably arise.

The panel of thought leaders included:

  • Nadine M. Finigan-Carr, PhD, MS, research associate professor and director, Prevention of Adolescent Risks Initiative, University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW)
  • Stacey Stephens, LCSW-C, director of B’more For Healthy Babies, an initiative meant to combat the infant mortality rate in Baltimore under Promise Heights, UMSSW
  • Danya Qato. PhD, PharmD, MPH, assistant professor and director of the Pharmaceutical Health Services Research Graduate Program at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
  • Jessica R. Lee, MD, assistant professor, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, University of Maryland School of Medicine
