Marisha Powell

Marisha Powell -  BiographyFeatured in our Security Officer spotlight this month, we would like to introduce you to Marisha Powell. 

Marisha began working with UMB in November 2013. She was a floater during her first four years, after which she moved to the SMC Campus Center. Now, in the beginning of her sixth year, Marisha is working at her favorite post yet, the Community Engagement Center (CEC). Not only is she the first line of defense for the PAL (Police Athletic/Activities League) kids, but she's also a role model and mentor to them, serving an integral role within the CEC. We thank Marisha for being a constant beacon of light and joy within the UMB community!

Q&A with Officer Marisha Powell


  1. What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
    • I am a people person, so meeting new people almost every day brings me joy.
  2. What is your greatest achievement on the job?
    • Working at UMB has made me become a dedicated hard worker. I used to lack drive and be unambitious, but this job has taught me to go above and beyond, no matter the endeavor.
  3. What is your greatest achievement outside of the job?
    • Truly discovering who I, Marisha Powell, am.
  4. What is your most memorable event from your job as a police officer?
    • Working with the PAL kids in the Community Engagement Center.
  5. What makes for a great day on the job?
    • Doing what is expected of me and more. Also, positive interactions with the PAL kids.
  6. Knowing your job can get stressful, how do you maintain your sanity?
    • I like working out, hanging with my friends and family, and working on my business. In addition, praying to God every day is incredibly helpful. 
  7. Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
    • A small business owner with my own fitness line and more!
