UMB hosts many international visitors each year from around the world. The Office of Research and Development collaborates with the Office of International Services to facilitate export compliance review and, when needed, execution of Visitor Agreements.
International visitors must obtain a visa appropriate for the proposed activities at UMB. Work with the Office of International Services as you invite and make arrangements for international students, faculty, fellows, and staff.
While at UMB, visitors are expected to comply with the laws of the United States as well as UMB's policies and procedures. A self-funded (volunteer) visitor who will spend time at UMB working, training, or observing must sign a Visitor Agreement. Visiting scholars on the UMB payroll or who are registered students at UMB do not need to sign a VSA but will undergo a deemed export review.
UMB investigators frequently engage in projects with collaborators outside the United States, participate in international research or training, and plan travel for research purposes. These activities can involve complex compliance, legal, and administrative requirements. This page provides guidance on planning, documenting, and managing international collaborations.
