UMB Leads Plenary Panel at CUCH Conference

Dr. Man Charurat, Ciheb Global Director at the UM School of Medicine, will moderate a plenary panel on "Transformative Partnerships with the National Public Health Institutes for Sustained Global Health Implementation and Research" at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Annual Conference April 14 in Washington, D.C.

National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) play critical roles in health policy-setting and decision-making through their roles in generating, synthesizing, and interpreting public health data to make timely recommendations. As we reimagine the success of the U.S.

President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programs at its 20th anniversary to end the HIV pandemic by 2030 and in the era of increasing health security threats, this plenary session will look at the intersection between HIV and other pandemic preparedness, how best to support the NPHIs in science, service, prevention, and surveillance, and what lie ahead for the transformative partnerships.

The panel includes:

  • Dr. Michael Kagoli, Director General (Acting), Public Health Institute of Malawi
  • Dr. Alash’le Abimiku, Executive Director, IRCE, Institute of Human Virology
