Two New Globally-Focused Degrees at UMB Graduate School for Fall 2021

MS and Certificate in Vulnerability and Violence Reduction

‌‌This unique 30-credit MS and 12-credit certificate program is taught in conjunction with the internationally-renowned Center for Trust, Peace, and Social Reconciliation at Coventry University in England.

Faculty with experience in community organizing, public health, criminology, and dispute resolution in multiple settings will provide critical approaches to understanding the evolution of violence, how the exposure and exploitation of vulnerabilities can lead to violence, and an expanded range of solutions to address violence. This program will prepare students from diverse personal and professional backgrounds to organize, lead, and support effective violence and vulnerability reduction initiatives in their own communities.

UMB staff can use the Tuition Remission benefit to participate in the course.

Certificate in Global Health Innovation (10 weeks in Costa Rica)

This unique 12-credit graduate certificate offers students an opportunity to learn about global health and health care innovation in Costa Rica, a country recognized as a global leader in translating good ideas into positive health outcomes — especially in the areas of biotechnology and health care delivery.

The program will be delivered during a 10-week learning experience in Costa Rica and consists of courses in Intercultural Communication and Conflict Resolution; Global Health and Social Innovation; Innovations for Universal Health Care; Urban Health and Social Innovation; and a final practicum with an NGO, all of which are taught by bilingual Costa Rican faculty from the InterAmerican Center for Global Health (CISG).

The certificate will prepare students from diverse personal and professional backgrounds to organize, lead, and support effective global health practice initiatives across the world.
