CVD and Pediatric Center of Frederick Have Tested and Researched Nearly Every Routine Pediatric Vaccine Used Globally

For more than 30 years, the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) has collaborated with the Pediatric Center of Frederick to test vaccines used in pediatric care. Through this extensive partnership, multiple vaccines have been evaluated and licensed. The CVD works tirelessly to prevent disease and provide vaccines that reach children on both domestic and international levels.

Nearly every vaccine used in routine pediatric care has been tested through this important collaboration. The vaccines tested in this collaboration are not only for use in our local population but are deployed to aid the world’s underserved populations around the globe.

“Every single vaccine that we currently have licensed in the pediatric schedule, in one form or another, has been tested here at this practice in Frederick,” said James Campbell, MD, Professor of Pediatrics and the CVD’s Principal Investigator for the pediatric vaccine research conducted at the Pediatric Center of Frederick.

“You can see healthy infants, children, and adolescents come in and know that we had a part in keeping them healthy and protected,” said Nancy Wymer, RN, CVD’s Clinical Research Coordinator at the site in Frederick, Md.

Keeping these infants, children, and adolescents healthy is the mission of both the CVD and the Pediatric Center. The combination of their efforts has a global scope as these vaccines are used in children around the world, continuing to prevent countless deaths each year.
