Through a structured curriculum, students participating in the program will:

• Observe the practice and organization of health care in the US

• Observe the practice of surgery and medicine in a US medical setting

• Engage with selected University of Maryland School of Medicine preceptors

• Engage in learning activities at a major US research institution with options to attend lectures and presentations in the areas of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, law, social work and graduate education

• Deepen knowledge of US health system and medical research concepts through didactic sessions

• Engage in cultural activities on the UMB campus and in the Baltimore/Washington DC metro area

Evaluation and Certificate

Participating students will be evaluated based on criteria agreed upon by the three sponsoring institutions and earn a DDUCEP certificate upon completion of the observership program.
