Dr. Mooney-Doyle is a federally funded nurse scientist whose research advances family science in pediatric palliative care. Her program of research — supported by the National Institutes of Health, including the National Institute of Nursing Research — focuses on children with serious illness and medical complexity and the families who care for them. Dr. Mooney Doyle examines parenting, family communication, sibling well-being, and pediatric-to-adult health care transitions in the context of serious pediatric illness. A central aim of her work is to address ethical and equity-related challenges faced by families, including parent moral distress and the social determinants of comfort. With formal training in pediatric bioethics, her scholarship integrates pediatric ethics, health equity, and community partnership to inform family-centered, ethically grounded models of pediatric palliative care and serious illness research.
