Diane Forbes Berthoud was named the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) chief inclusive excellence and institutional effectiveness officer and vice president in December 2025. She brings more than 25 years of progressive academic and administrative leadership experience in the areas of assessment, organizational change and transformation, leadership development, and strategic planning and implementation. In her current role, Forbes Berthoud leads the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Institutional Effectiveness, overseeing the implementation and advancement of the University’s strategic plan, data-informed planning, organizational learning, capacity building, and evidence-based practices to expand access and opportunity, foster belonging, and support an environment in which every member of the UMB community can thrive. She previously served as UMB’s first chief equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) officer and vice president for 4½ years and held several key positions for the University of California, San Diego for a decade, including associate vice chancellor for EDI. Forbes Berthoud earned PhD and MA degrees in organizational communication and social psychology from Howard University as well as a BA in communication from Barry University.
