Marianne Cloeren, MD, MPH, FACOEM, FACP, is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She serves as the public health officer for the University of Maryland, Baltimore and provides clinical leadership for the University’s employee health programs, with a focus on biosafety, exposure management, and research workforce protection. Board-certified in both internal medicine and occupational medicine, Dr. Cloeren has over three decades of experience in clinical care, applied research, and educational innovation. Her work bridges academic medicine, public health systems, and workplace health strategy. Her research interests include recovery-friendly workplaces, harm reduction in occupational settings, online medical education, and the health impacts of occupational hazards. She co-leads the interprofessional PROSPER (Partnering to Reduce Opioid Stigma and Promote Employment in Recovery) initiative in collaboration with state agencies and community organizations. A recognized leader in instructional design, Dr. Cloeren has developed both in-person and online education programs, including a 100-hour elective in occupational medicine for preclinical medical students, an online course for clinicians on motivational interviewing to address vaccine hesitancy, and several online courses on work disability prevention and management.
