Bring Your Creativity to Life, One Gingerbread Piece at a Time!

This holiday season, we’re inviting the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) community to put its creativity to work.

Faculty, staff, and students from across our seven schools and administrative units are invited to Build a Little UMB Holiday Magic by creating a gingerbread house, scene, or other creation inspired by UMB.

Build UMB your way. Your creation can be a recognizable UMB building or landmark, a school-specific space, a lab, clinic, classroom, campus scene — or something completely imaginative inspired by UMB.

Want to recreate Davidge Hall? Go for it. Build a miniature research lab? Absolutely. Create a gingerbread garage complete with tiny cars? We’d love to see it.

Add your own signature details, characters, inside jokes, or creative touches. The more UMB personality, the better!

Notes

  • No baking or architectural experience is required — just creativity, collaboration, and a little imagination.
  • Creations will be displayed at the UMB Holiday Market on Dec. 2.
  • Vote for your favorite. Prizes will be awarded!

Need some inspiration?

Consider building:

  • Davidge Hall
  • SMC Campus Center
  • Community Engagement Center
  • UMB parking garage with miniature cars
  • School-specific building or space
  • URecFit
  • Research lab
  • Operating room
  • Dental office
  • Donaldson Brown Center’s mansion
  • Something else entirely from your own imagination

Important information

  • Submit videos and photos of your team during construction. Film yourselves creating your gingerbread entry. Video must be horizontal. Photos may be horizontal or vertical.
  • Bring your creations to the SMC, Elm Ballroom by 9 a.m. on Dec 2. They will be displayed at the Holiday Bazaar. Voting will take place at the bazaar in several categories. Winners will receive UMB swag bags!
  • Teams are responsible for providing their own gingerbread, building materials, decorations, and other supplies needed to create their entries, as well as coordinating a time and place for construction.

The goal isn't to achieve architectural perfection — it's about creativity, collaboration, and having a little fun.

Gather a team from your school, department, office, student organization, or group of friends and start building!
