Duo Mobile App: Update by March 11th, 2026

Duo Security is retiring its current Certificate Authority (CA) pinning bundle. All UMB students, faculty, staff, clinicians, researchers, and IT system owners who use Duo Mobile for authentication must be using version 4.85 or newer by March 11th, 2026, to avoid service disruptions. Users impacted by this change will receive an email notification from the CITS Help Desk.

Duo’s existing CA bundle is set to expire soon. To maintain secure communication between Duo and authentication systems, all Duo integrated applications must use the new trusted certificate bundle.

UMB is working with Duo to enforce a soft cutoff on March 11th, 2026, to identify and support customers still using incompatible versions. An email will be sent to users impacted by this upgrade.

Users who receive an email from the CITS Help Desk will be required to complete this update, however, anyone who uses Duo for multifactor authentication is encouraged to ensure their Duo Mobile app is on version 4.85.0 or newer. If users do not upgrade to this version or newer, the Duo Push function will no longer work, however SMS passcodes and phone callback authentication are unaffected, as they do not depend on Duo Mobile.

Duo Mobile: End of Support for iOS 16 and Android 11

Effective April 16, 2026, Duo Mobile will discontinue support for iOS 16 and Android 11. The minimum required operating system versions will be as follows:

  • iOS 17 or later
  • Android 12 or later

  • Duo Support will not provide troubleshooting assistance for Duo Mobile on iOS 16 or Android 11.
  • Duo Push will remain functional on existing installations, but no further updates will be issued.
  • Duo Mobile passcodes will continue to operate on pre-existing installations.
  • SMS passcodes and phone callback authentication are unaffected, as they do not depend on Duo Mobile.
  • Duo Mobile will maintain full support, including security updates and feature enhancements, on iOS 17+ and Android 12+.
  • Users with devices running iOS 16 or Android 11 will be unable to install newer versions of Duo Mobile after the cutoff date.
