About Megan
My journey into public health emergency preparedness began as a happy accident—fresh out of graduate school and eager to make a difference, I stumbled into a role as a public health emergency planner at a local health department. Little did I know, this chance encounter would set the stage for some of the most formative experiences of my career. Just nine months later, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, thrusting me into the heart of the crisis. From those early days at the local health department to my current role at CHHS, I’ve fallen in love with my career, and I feel fortunate to have found my calling. One of the most impactful projects I’ve led at CHHS was developing an Emerging Infectious Disease plan for Prince George’s County Health Department. That work gave me an opportunity to create a groundbreaking plan that consolidates multiple emergency protocols into one comprehensive framework, empowering the Health Department to respond swiftly and effectively to future pandemics and emergencies. I’m honored to be part of the CHHS team, where collaboration and expertise come together to drive real impact. Every colleague I work with brings a unique spark – their passion, intelligence, and dedication inspire me every day. We’re more than just a team – we're a family that lifts each other up and pushes boundaries together. I’m constantly learning and growing alongside talented individuals who share my commitment to making a difference.
How long have you been with CHHS?
I have had the privilege of being part of CHHS for over four years now since May 2021.
What's a fun fact or hidden talent you have?
Music has been the rhythm of my life. As a retired pianist and percussionist, I’ve had the privilege of making music a huge part of my adult life. Though the instruments may be quieter now, my voice remains strong. I continue to share my passion through song, serving as a professional vocalist for several churches in Baltimore. One of the highlights of my journey was the honor of singing for the late Pope Benedict – a truly unforgettable experience.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
Beyond the daily grind, I find joy in life’s simple pleasures: experimenting with flavors in the kitchen, sharing laughter with my loving boyfriend, and spoiling my adventurous Australian Shepherd pup. My wanderlust is always simmering, and I’m constantly plotting my next great travel escape.
