
Norm Lewis is a baritone singer and actor who has performed on and off Broadway, in Europe, and in regional theater, film, television, and recording.
In addition to being nominated for Tony, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild awards, Lewis made history as the first African American actor to perform the title role in the Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera.” In summer 2023, he reprised the role in the play’s sequel, “Love Never Dies,” at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End.
Lewis also is known for his performances as Inspector Javert in “Les Misérables,” first playing the role in the 2006 Broadway revival and reprising it in the West End and for the 25th anniversary concert at the O2 Arena.
Lewis’ other theatrical credits include “Miss Saigon,” “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Chicago,” “Once on This Island,” “Chess,” “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “The Music Man,” “A Soldier’s Play,” and many more.
Lewis has appeared in films such as “Da 5 Bloods,” “Sex and the City 2,” “Christmas In Tune,” “Magnum Opus,” and “Winter’s Tale,” as well as TV shows or limited series including “Scandal,” “Pose,” “Women of the Movement, “Bull,” “Chicago Med,” “Gotham,” “The Blacklist,” and “Blue Bloods.”
He played Caiaphas in the award-winning NBC TV special “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!” alongside John Legend, Sara Bareilles, and Alice Cooper, and he has released two albums, “The Norm Lewis Christmas Album” and “This Is the Life.”
