    Peter J. Murray, PhD, CAS, MS

    Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President for Information Technology

    Peter Murray oversees the operations of the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Center for Information Technology Services (CITS), which is the central information technology organization serving the University.

    CITS implements and supports academic and administrative technologies, including human resources, payroll, finance, email, research, and teaching and learning systems, as well as telecommunications, web application development, and the University’s network infrastructure.

    Murray, who has been at UMB since 2002, also is responsible for overseeing and coordinating Universitywide information technology planning, including policies, committees, initiatives, and overall strategy.

    Before joining UMB, Murray was the vice provost for information technologies and chief information officer (CIO) for Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., serving as CIO for nearly eight years.

    From 1985 to 1992, he worked for the State University of New York (SUNY) at the Central Administration headquarters. There he was responsible for managing information systems and research projects for the 64 colleges and universities in the SUNY system.

    He holds a PhD in educational administration and policy studies from the University at Albany, SUNY, a certificate of advanced standing from the University at Albany, and a master’s of science from SUNY Plattsburgh. Murray received his bachelor of arts in economics from Middlebury College.
