Josie I. Woodward
Office Manager
School of Dentistry
Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
My name is Josie Woodward, and I serve as the Office Manager for the Dean at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. In my role, I support senior leadership while coordinating a wide range of initiatives that involve cross-department collaboration, event planning, and operational logistics. With nearly nine years of experience at UMB, I have developed a strong understanding of the institution’s structure and the importance of effective communication, organization, and teamwork in supporting both faculty and staff. I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Management and Leadership with a concentration in Project Management, which has further strengthened my interest in improving processes and enhancing workplace engagement. I am passionate about creating a more connected and supportive work environment and am excited about the opportunity to contribute to staff advocacy and engagement through the Staff Senate.
Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
I am interested in serving on the Staff Senate because I want to be more directly involved in representing staff and contributing to meaningful improvements across the University. In my role, I regularly work across departments and see opportunities where communication, coordination, and staff engagement can be strengthened. I’m naturally drawn to improving processes and creating more structure around how we support and connect staff. I would value the opportunity to bring that perspective to a broader level, while also ensuring that staff voices are heard and reflected in decisions that impact their dayto-day work. Serving on Staff Senate is an opportunity for me to contribute in a more impactful way while continuing to grow as a leader within the UMB community.
What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
I would like to contribute to strengthening communication and transparency between staff and leadership, while also helping to create more structured opportunities for staff engagement. I believe one of the most impactful things we can do is ensure that staff feel informed, included, and supported in their roles.
Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
Outside of work, I’m definitely a foodie, I love trying new restaurants and exploring different cuisines. I also enjoy traveling whenever I can. Also, I love being in the water, so swimming is something I always make time for. And when I’m home and just relaxing, I love playing The Sims...it’s my go-to way to unwind.
