1. Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
Hello! My name is Michael Penney and I currently serve as Manager, Facilities Service Center in the Operations & maintenance at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. In my role, I oversee the Service Center of Operations and Maintenance, ensuring all calls from Campus wide are responded to, Techs dispatched and Work orders created . I take pride in contributing to UMB’s mission through my daily work and by collaborating with colleagues across the campus.
2. Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
I'm passionate about staff advocacy and believe in the importance of creating an inclusive, transparent, and supportive environment for all UMB employees. Serving on the Staff Senate provides an opportunity to amplify staff voices, engage in meaningful dialogue, and help drive positive change across the university. I want to be part of the team that helps bridge communication between staff and leadership while supporting initiatives that matter to our community.
3. What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
During my term, I hope to focus on enhancing staff engagement and recognition, promoting wellness and professional development, and ensuring that diverse perspectives are represented in campus decision-making. I also want to work toward strengthening communication channels so that all staff feel informed, included, and empowered to contribute their ideas.
4. Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing soccer with my son, watching soccer games at home and Stadium with my family and friends I also love spending time with family and friends and staying involved in community events and initiatives that support equity and education.
