1. Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
My name is Troy Parker, and I serve as the Associate Director of Career Development and Placement at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. In this role, I support professional and career development initiatives for PharmD, while also building and maintaining partnerships with employers, alumni, and academic departments. I work collaboratively across the university to empower students in identifying meaningful career pathways and preparing for successful transitions into the workforce.
2. Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
I’m passionate about service and advocacy, especially when it comes to fostering inclusive and supportive campus environments. I see the Staff Senate as an opportunity to elevate the voices of staff, contribute to university-wide decisions, and promote a culture of collaboration and transparency. Serving on the Senate aligns with my personal values of equity, community, and continuous improvement, and I’m excited about the chance to be a bridge between staff and leadership.
3. What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
During my term, I hope to help amplify the needs and concerns of staff members across all departments and backgrounds. I aim to contribute to initiatives that support professional development, promote staff recognition and well-being, and enhance communication across units. 4. Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
4. Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
Outside of work, I’m a proud husband and father who enjoys spending quality time with my family. I’m active in my church and community, and I’m a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and several professional organizations. I also enjoy mentoring youth, coaching, reading, and supporting educational programs that uplift all populations. When I can find time, I love researching leadership theory and career development practices, especially those focused higher education.
