Amy Z. Mu, MBA
Assistant Director of Finance
Francis King Carey School of Law
Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
Hi, my name is Amy. I work in financial and administrative operations, supporting budgeting, payroll, travel, and grants management. In my role, I collaborate closely with faculty and staff across departments to ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently. I’m particularly interested in improving systems and communication to better support our staff community.
Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
I’m interested in serving on the Staff Senate because I want to contribute more broadly to the university community beyond my day-to-day responsibilities. In my role supporting financial and administrative operations, I work closely with faculty, staff, and various departments, and I regularly see opportunities where improved communication, clearer processes, and stronger staff support can make a meaningful difference. Serving on the Senate would allow me to represent staff perspectives, particularly in areas like financial systems, travel processes, and administrative workflows. I’m especially interested in helping identify practical solutions that improve efficiency while also ensuring policies are clear and supportive for staff across departments. I also value collaboration and believe my experience working across different functions would help me bring a balanced, solutions-oriented perspective. I see this as an opportunity to advocate for colleagues, contribute to positive change, and stay engaged with broader institutional priorities.
What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
During my term, I hope to contribute to improving communication, transparency, and efficiency across staff-facing processes. In my role, I’ve seen how administrative systems—such as budgeting, payroll, and travel—directly impact staff experience, and I would like to help identify practical ways to make these processes clearer and more user-friendly. I also hope to serve as an effective voice for staff by actively listening to concerns, bringing forward common challenges, and helping develop solutions that are both practical and sustainable. Strengthening communication between staff and leadership is especially important to me, so that policies and decisions are better understood and aligned with day-to-day operations. Overall, my goal is to support initiatives that enhance the staff experience, promote collaboration, and contribute to a more efficient and supportive work environment.
Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, and I especially love going on safari trips in Africa whenever I have the opportunity.
