Frank Lancaster

Senior Academic Services Specialist
Francis King Carey School of Law
1. Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
Hello, I am Frank Lancaster and this is my fifteenth year at UMB and Maryland Carey Law. My job title is Senior Academic Services Specialist and over the course of fifteen years at the law school I feel like I’ve done a little bit of everything and I’m very proud of that. Officially, I’m assigned to work with eight wonderful faculty members and three programs here at the law school and look for ways to contribute wherever I can. I treasure my time with UMB, the colleagues I’ve met along the way, and the unique set of skills that UMB helped foster.
2. Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
Being a UMB employee has shaped me in more ways than I can count. I’ve gotten so much out of my fifteen years at UMB that I want to give back what I can. I’ve met hundreds, if not thousands of people throughout UMB and feel uniquely qualified to be able to advocate on their behalf via the Staff Senate in a way that reflects UMB’s core values. I am a true believer in UMB and want to highlight all the great things we can do together. One example is the Maryland Day Event we just held at the law school. I wanted to celebrate our shared state and our status as UMB employees. With the help of colleagues and the leadership at the law school, we ended up putting together a great event that was able to bring a good number of people from across campus together.
3. What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
I hope to use my position as a UMB Staff Senator to make the campus closer. Sometimes that short walk to the next School or building feels miles and miles away. I’d like to contribute to a more cosmopolitan atmosphere on campus where instead of being siloed by our Department, or building, or School, we can all come together as members of the UMB community.
4. Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
Outside of work I have a nine-year-old and she (happily) takes up most of my free time. From Den Leader at Scouts to assistant coach at softball and everything in between I’m happiest when I get to spend time with my family. Besides that, I’m a big fan of continuing education. I’ve taken advantage of UMB’s tuition remission benefits to earn a second Master’s degree and another graduate certificate. When I can, I enjoy playing Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons with friends.
